About Us
Gochu is an independent family run business founded in 2021. We aim to blend high quality fresh produce, luxurious experience & top-grade service in a space that is comfortable & welcoming. We incorporated the ancient Japanese philosophy of inyo into the concept of Gochu: the delicate balance of two contrasting elements coming together to create something innovative & harmonious, allowing for a deeper appreciation of the other. Gochu explores these aspects during the design process & curation of menu’s. The venue expands over three vastly different light & dark floors, designed to create a new dining experience for each occasion. Our head chef Jake Halliwell-Fletcher brings together contemporary Japanese cooking with modern English techniques to create a unique taste sensation. Our experienced mixologists craft extensive ranges of cocktails with Japanese influence introducing you to something new & exciting.
The first floor dining area has an open-plan kitchen with menu choices that include Sushi, Bao Buns, Ramen and Steaks.
On the top floor there’s a beach-style bar and outdoor terrace with couches, pale woods and lots of greenery.
Roof Terrace Floor…
Gochu’s rooftop terrace emanates a more lively atmosphere for groups & those looking for a vibrant dining experience. It has bright & beachy vibes with a retractable roof that can be taken off on warmer nights so that you can enjoy the weather & view of the sunset to its fullest. Our cocktail bar is open for customers to drop in & enjoy some of our delicious signature cocktails, all made with the finest ingredients to ensure quality & elegance in every sip.
First Floor
This is our main restaurant area. This space encourages more formal, intimate dining experiences centred around couples & small groups. The dark woods & lighting paired with the open plan kitchen creates an atmosphere that heightens the appreciation of the food & personal experience.
Ground Floor
Our entrance bar is a more private space for dining, it is separate to our first floor & terrace seating, catering for couples or groups of up to 8. The vibe varies on each floor but the full menu is served wherever you choose to sit! The welcome drinks bar on this floor makes the dining experience more relaxed & laid back.
Private Hire
Our terrace is available for private hire – price upon request. When hosting a private event, depending on numbers, we can either do a sit down meal or canapes that can be sent up on platters throughout the evening. Guests are welcome to dress the venue beforehand and can send us a playlist to be played through our sound system. There is the option to use the projector screen on the top floor with any videos/images. Our experienced bartenders can create your very own cocktails based around your favourite flavours or specific themes to give your party that extra special touch.

“Wow!! We visited on Saturday and were seated in the top terrace! The interior was beautiful and had a lovely cosy feel! We ordered lots of little dishes and I couldn’t fault a single thing. The salmon sushi was so fresh and full of flavour and the pork bao buns were the best I have ever had!!! (Honestly will be dreaming about them). The staff were lovely and super attentive. “We have been coming to Gochu regularly since it opened and can honestly say we have only ever had wonderful meals! The food is always beautifully prepared with well balanced flavours and innovative ideas. The blend of traditional Japanese culinary ideas with British flavours works wonderfully. Personal favourites are the small plates as well as the more traditional Sunday dinner. There is an extensive bar and cocktail menu with drinks being expertly prepared. Away from the food and drink, the atmosphere and service is exceptional. A young, dynamic team, for whom nothing seems to be too much trouble, only serves to cement Gochu as our favourite restaurant by some distance!”
“This is the 5th time we have visited and as Gochu has never failed to impress, I am compelled to leave a review! Eleanor waited on us this visit and her smile, politeness and knowledge of the menu are something worthy of a mention. When you enter the restaurant, you are immediately made welcome and shown to your table by the manager. The ambient lighting and atmosphere makes you feel comfortable. Their food is freshly made to order, either small, sharing style plates or individual large plates. We took advantage of their January blues offer on the Sunday roasts- twice! The beef is the best we have ever tasted. We haven’t yet sampled much of the cocktail menu but their Tokyo iced tea is 👌! Keep up the outstanding work team Gochu, you are a credit to Poulton.”

Is the full menu available on all floors?
Yes!
Do you provide disabled access?
If disabled access is required, please let us know prior to your booking so we can ensure the ground floor dining is as comfortable as possible.
Is the top floor terrace open to the elements?
The top floor dining is indoor unless the weather permits - we have a retractable roof that we take off in nice weather.
Do you cater for allergies?
We can cater for allergies - just make sure you inform a server when you arrive and we will go through the menu choices. A gluten free menu is available upon request.
Can I purchase gift vouchers?
You can purchase gift vouchers on our website or at the venue - we accept cash or card.
Work at Gochu
The Gochu family is growing!
We are looking for full and part time chefs with passion, creativity and attention to detail to join our strong team. Those who apply must be eager to learn and keen to develop their skills working alongside our Head Chef Jake, and work well under pressure. Some experience and knowledge is preferred, however training will be offered for those who show initiative and enthusiasm.
